Two Child-Free Days a Week: A Game Changer for My Business (and Sanity) *

For the first time in two years, I had a full business day without my kid at home. And damn, it was life-changing.

Since 2019, I’ve been running my web design business from home. When my son was born on January 3, 2023, I kept juggling work and parenting—no daycare, just full-time multitasking. It’s been incredible in so many ways: being there for every milestone, not rushing into childcare, and soaking up all the little moments.

But today? Today felt different. It felt… free.

The Guilt That Never Quits

If you work from home with a kid, you know the drill. The guilt is constant. When I focus on work, I feel like a bad parent. When I focus on my kid, I feel like I’m failing my business. It’s a never-ending tug-of-war.

And let’s not even talk about the random sick days that derail your entire week.

Why These Two Days Are a Total Game Changer

Right now, my son is in daycare part-time—just two days a week—but I already feel the difference. Today, I actually powered through my to-do list. I cleaned up, and the mess stayed cleaned up. Hell, I even had time to tweeze my eyebrows (which, if you know, you know).

But the biggest win? Mental clarity.

Knowing I have dedicated work time means I can actually focus, instead of constantly splitting my brain between client deadlines and snack requests. And when I’m with my kid, I can be fully present—without that nagging feeling that I should be working.

The Road Ahead

These two days? They’re going to change everything—my business, my productivity, my mental health. Do I miss him? Of course. But I also know that this balance is making me a better entrepreneur and a better parent.

To every work-from-home parent drowning in guilt: I see you. And if you’re thinking about making a change, even a small one? Do it. It might be the sanity-saver you didn’t know you needed.
